Trauma Therapy in Bethesda, MD & Miami, FL
Have You Been Wounded In A Way That Just Won’t Seem To Heal?
Do you silently wonder why you still feel hurt, numb, and disconnected—from yourself and from God—although you’ve prayed for help and even fasted?
Truth is, despite the amazing power of Faith, Prayer, and Scripture, sometimes, when we get hurt, our pain can exceed our ability to understand and recover from our wounds on our own.
Like many Christians considering therapy for trauma or PTSD, you’re probably still carrying the full weight of the past on your shoulders. You’ve tried to live life to its fullest by Letting Go and Letting God—yet you are still consumed with fear and worry that ultimately hold you back.
Moreover, you may feel invalidated by other Christians who either don’t see your pain or assume you’re responsible for something that was ultimately beyond your control.
Fear And Worry Are Not The Only Hallmarks of Trauma
Trauma often causes low self-esteem, negative self-talk, and persistent self-doubt that can make it difficult to pursue goals or advance in your career. Despite the constant second-guessing and over-analyzing, you probably still find yourself making unhealthy choices or ill-advised decisions.
Catastrophic thoughts and worst-case “what-if” scenarios leave you feeling as though nothing and no one is safe, so you keep to yourself. The growing isolation, impatience, and intolerance for even the smallest frustrations is likely causing trouble in your relationships. After all you’ve experienced, you probably have come to believe this is the best God will give you—that maybe you don’t even deserve better—but I am here to say that this is untrue.
Whether you’re navigating PTSD, complex childhood trauma, or any other emotional burden still weighing you down, my faith-based approach to therapy can lead you toward healing and recovery. With my support, you can learn to calm your nervous system and finally free yourself from the past, allowing you to truly feel safe, confident, and alive.

Trauma Can Grow Out Of Many Life Experiences—Big And Small
Most of us think of trauma and PTSD as something that results from a single, life-changing incident, which can be true. However, trauma frequently stems from subtler, more enduring life experiences, such as child neglect, toxic parenting, spousal abuse, spiritual abuse, and even church hurt.
Sometimes, trauma can be passed down through generations, unconsciously shaping stress responses, behavioral patterns, and relationship choices. At the same time, it can leave us stuck with unhealthy coping strategies or defense mechanisms that end up doing more harm than good.

Why Trauma/PTSD Treatment Is Particularly Important For Christians
For people of Faith, there is often this explicit expectation to remain loyal to loved ones at all costs. We’re told to excuse the toxic behavior of family members or friends, even going as far as to normalize abuse as something we should forgive and simply endure as “good” Christians.
Men are supposed to be strong and ever-resilient, making it difficult to reach out for support. Women, who have historically been conditioned to tolerate discomfort in silence, end up burying their feelings. And for many Haitian, Latino, and Black folks, trauma can seem like just another of life’s hardships that’s simply meant to be endured.
As a Christian, it’s important to know that you too deserve healing and support—that it is God's will for you to be healed and not be held by your past. That's why God blessed the world with doctors, teachers, and even trauma/PTSD counselors.
By combining effective, trauma-focused therapy methods with the power of Scripture, Prayer, and Faith, it is possible to heal and enjoy greater hope, self-compassion, and spiritual empowerment in your life.
Trauma Therapy Opens The Door To A World Of Hope And Opportunity
When it comes to trauma, guilt and shame are almost always a part of the picture. Even though we tell ourselves that God wants us to thrive and be joyful, it can seem like that’s just not in the cards for us—that, for some reason, we don’t even deserve to feel better. But that’s not true!
Working with a Christian trauma therapist gives you a space to share your story without fear, judgment, or shame with an ally who truly understands. It teaches you how to clap back at the negative self-talk, shut down the self-blame, and navigate life with more grace and flexibility.
What To Expect In Trauma Counseling Sessions
In our early sessions, we’ll work to identify the main issue(s) causing distress. Typically, that involves exploring the past, usually starting with childhood, looking at how certain life experiences are currently impacting daily life. We’ll take an inventory of the skills you’re using to cope, the abilities you’d like to develop, and the goals you have for trauma counseling.
A big part of my work focuses on strengthening emotional resilience, building self-advocacy skills, and learning how to self-regulate the nervous system. Using practical, research-based tools along with holistic techniques, I want to help you safely process your experience, lessen the intensity of triggers and symptoms, and finally move forward with your life.

Some Of The Trauma-Informed, Christian-Oriented Tools I Use To Promote Healing
Whether you feel stuck in the past due to PTSD, complex trauma, profound childhood wounds, or spiritual abuse, I tailor counseling sessions to each person’s needs, using a range of treatment methods.
Mindfulness
One of the techniques I often use is Mindfulness, which is all about living and staying in the present (not the past or the future). It draws upon deep breathing, visualization, and other grounding exercises to reduce symptoms of anxiety, panic, depression, and stress that arise when reminded of the past. At times, this will integrate biblical principles, such as prayer, being still, or meditating on Scripture.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Trauma can also convince you that the worst is always about to happen, which is where Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) comes in. CBT helps you recognize and identify where negative thoughts come from while reframing those ideas with positive, healthier, or more accurate beliefs.
Brainspotting and EMDR Therapy
Brainspotting and EMDR therapy are particularly useful when addressing trauma that’s hard to reflect on or talk about without feeling triggered or retraumatized. These two brain-based approaches to treatment help identify core wounds and relieve trauma symptoms while lessening the intensity of triggers through greater emotional resilience and psychological flexibility.
Nothing Is Impossible With Faith And Support
At the core of my approach is the belief that with guidance and support coupled with the wisdom of Christ, anything is possible—healing, growth, transformation. Blending trauma-focused techniques, like EMDR and Brainspotting, with Biblical Truths and the power of Faith, I genuinely believe you can find relief and an enduring sense of freedom that allows you to fully function and truly feel alive.
