Depression Therapy in Bethesda, MD & Miami, FL

Do You Often Feel Lost, Sad, Or Even Hopeless?

Are you quietly suffering, wondering why God hasn’t answered your prayers for help? Despite leaning into Scripture and your Faith, do you still:

  • Feel moody, gloomy, tearful, emotionally disconnected, or even numb?

  • Lack motivation, energy, interest, or meaning and direction in your life?

  • Criticize yourself or doubt your goodness, your value, or God’s love for you?

Perhaps you’re a mother or caregiver who’s spent so much time putting others’ needs before her own that you’ve lost touch with yourself—and your faith.

Maybe you’re considering depression therapy because you simply feel overwhelmed by life and just need some help reconnecting to God and His plan for you.

Depression Steals Little Pieces Of You Day By Day

Living with depression can drain you of hope, joy, and optimism until you end up abandoning activities you once enjoyed and withdrawing from people you love. It can rob you of energy, disrupt your self-care, and generally make life seem so bleak that you’d rather lie under the blankets in the dark than get up and face the day.

At work, you probably feel numb half the time—like you’re there, yet not really there—but you smile and carry on. You tell yourself you’re okay and go through the motions, ignoring the pain inside to keep up appearances.

As a Christian depression therapist, I know how difficult it can be to find peace, even with prayer and faith backing you up—but there is a way to heal and simultaneously revitalize your connection to Christ. With my Christian-based approach to depression therapy, you can finally get to the bottom of things, discover new solutions, and restore your sense of hope, strength, and purpose in life.

Depression Has Many Opportunities To Make Itself At Home

If you’re considering therapy for depression, you’re certainly not alone. Even in the Christian community—and in the Bible itself—people struggle with hopelessness and despair.

While some individuals may be more likely to develop the condition due to hormonal changes, neurochemical imbalances, and other biological factors, depression can affect anyone.

It’s not a sign that you’re weak—or not faithful enough. It’s not because you sinned, and it doesn’t mean you’re unworthy of feeling at peace. It just means you are hurting and deserve some support.

Why Many Christians Are Hesitant To Reach Out For Help

The Christian church, in many ways, tells us to push through our pain. Instead of validating mental health challenges, it tends to view them as spiritual battles—challenges that can be answered by simply praying harder, reading the Bible more, and believing more deeply.

While our Faith is an invaluable resource, oftentimes, it can feel like the church is suggesting that if we were better Christians, we wouldn’t be hurting in the first place. As a result, a lot of people feel guilty for reaching out, so they end up suffering in silence.

But even in the Bible, we see those in pain seek guidance from advisers, solace in counselors—that’s why I’m here. My job as a Christian depression therapist is to help you heal the wounds at the heart of your pain while showing you how to use prayer, Biblical truths, and your Faith to walk the path you were always meant to.

Depression Therapy Can Help You Finally Get Back To Living

One of the most frustrating things about depression is how it resists explanation. You can try to pump yourself up, reason with your emotions, and fight the negative thoughts, but depression perseveres, refusing to respond to logic and willpower—and even our faith most of the time.

Working with a depression counselor helps you get to the bottom of things so that you know what you’re working with and how to break free. It gives you compassionate, non-judgmental support and a safe space where you can finally focus on yourself and what you need to heal and be happy.

What Types Of Things Do We Explore In Depression Counseling?

I'll use the first two sessions to ask a series of direct questions and have you complete a few mental health assessments to start identifying the way depression impacts you and how it might have begun.

I also think it’s important to look at how sleep, diet, work, personal habits, and physical health could be playing a role in your experience with depression. That’s why a big part of therapy is about using tools and doing things outside of sessions that help you re-engage with life.

For instance, maybe your symptoms are fed by spending too much time on social media, doomscrolling, and reading the world news. We’ll look at why you consume this content, compare yourself to others on social media, or feel like you’re falling behind. Then, we’ll create an action plan.

Some Of The Tools I Use In Depression Therapy For Christians

Overall, I take a collaborative approach to therapy, working alongside my clients to solve immediate problems and resolve the root cause as much as possible. To do that, I draw from a range of holistic and research-backed treatment strategies:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you recognize unhealthy thinking patterns and negative self-beliefs while empowering you to consciously shift that mindset and create a view of yourself that’s more in line with God’s truth.

EMDR Therapy

EMDR therapy for depression accelerates healing and recovery (especially where trauma is involved) by identifying and resolving the core issue behind depression, what triggers your symptoms, and how they show up in the body.

Oftentimes, I’ll blend approaches. For instance, we might use guided visualization exercises, mindfulness, and scripture or prayer, something I do by combining Christian therapy and EMDR.

Although I can’t promise anything, I know that God loves you and you deserve peace. I truly believe that by trusting in the therapeutic process—by teasing out the core issue, identifying contributing factors, and making small shifts in your lifestyle—it is possible to transform your mindset and change your life.
