How Brainspotting Can Help You Heal From Trauma

Brainspotting is a powerful tool that helps clients access deep healing that traditional talk therapy cannot. When trauma lives in the body, not just the mind, we need approaches that go beyond words. Many of us carry wounds from our past: painful relationships, childhood experiences, loss, or moments that shook our sense of safety.

These experiences don't just disappear with time. They become stored in the nervous system, affecting how we think and feel. We believe that true transformation is possible, and that God's design for healing includes both faith and evidence-based care.

What Is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a brain-based trauma therapy developed by Dr. David Grand in 2003. It works on the principle that where you look affects how you feel. During a session, a therapist helps a client locate a specific eye position, called a "brainspot," that corresponds to a stored traumatic memory or emotional experience.

Once that spot is identified, the brain can begin naturally processing the trauma. Unlike traditional talk therapy, brainspotting doesn't require clients to verbally recount painful memories in detail. This makes it especially helpful for people who feel stuck or have difficulty putting their trauma into words.

The process works directly with the subcortical brain. That’s the part responsible for emotion, memory, and survival responses. It’s also where trauma is stored, and where real healing begins.

How Brainspotting Supports Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy is most effective when it addresses the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. Brainspotting does exactly that. Here's how it supports healing at multiple levels:

  • It bypasses mental defenses: Many trauma survivors have difficulty accessing painful memories consciously. Brainspotting gently works beneath the surface without forcing the process.

  • It reduces emotional overwhelm: Clients often report feeling calmer and more regulated after sessions, even after processing deeply painful material.

  • It promotes lasting change: Because it targets the root of where trauma is stored in the brain, changes tend to be lasting rather than temporary.

  • It respects your pace: Sessions are client-led and attuned, allowing healing to unfold in a safe and supported way.

For those carrying relational wounds, anxiety, depression, burnout, or complex trauma, brainspotting offers a way to receive relief that truly meets you where you are.

Faith, Healing, and Brainspotting

We believe that healing is not just clinical: it is spiritual. Romans reminds us that transformation is not found by conforming to the patterns of the world. It begins with renewing our minds. Brainspotting aligns beautifully with this truth. It literally helps renew the mind by releasing what has been trapped and restoring what God intends for you. He wants peace, wholeness, and purpose for all of us.

When clients come to us, many have tried to pray away their pain or push through on willpower alone. Your faith matters, and we respect that. We also know that God has equipped therapists, researchers, and healers with tools to support His people. Seeking trauma therapy is not a lack of faith; it’s an act of stewardship for the minds and bodies He gifted us with.

As we work together through brainspotting, we also incorporate Christian mindfulness techniques, scriptural reflection, and prayer when clients want this type of integration. Healing happens on every level when we invite both faith and evidence-based care into the process.
